BUST: When a player is hoping to build a good hand but it doesn’t happen.

BUY-IN: The smallest amount that a player would need in order to get into the game.

CALL: To match the bet of the player before you.

CHECK-RAISE: When a player uses the wait and watch poker strategy and checks despite having a good hand with the hope of raising when it is his turn to bet yet again. This is a contentious strategy, which is also called ‘sandbagging’.

CINCH: A sure-fire hand. This is also called ‘lock’ or ‘nuts’.

COMMUNITY GAMES: Games in which a poker players share some cards on the board such as Hold’em, Omaha or Cincinnati.

CONNECTED CARDS: When a player has cards, which are in sequence, for example 6-7 or J-Q.

DEALER’S CHOICE: When the dealer is rotated who chooses the game.

FIFTH STREET: The final card to be disclosed in games like Hold’em poker or Omaha. The fifth card, which is dealt in seven-card. See river.

FLOP: The first three cards that are disclosed on the board in games like Hold’em or Omaha poker.

FOLD: When a player quits the hand.

FOUR-FLUSH OR FOUR STRAIGHT: When a player has four connected cards or when he has a hand with four suited cards. It goes without saying that these cards are of no use unless there is a fifth card to complete.

FOURTH STREET: The fourth card, which is disclosed in community poker and the fourth card that is dealt to a player in stud games. See Turn.

FOUR TITS: A pair of Queens. This is also termed ‘Siegfried and Roy’
