BUST: When a player is hoping to build a good hand but it doesn’t happen.

BUY-IN: The smallest amount that a player would need in order to get into the game.

CALL: To match the bet of the player before you.

CHECK-RAISE: When a player uses the wait and watch poker strategy and checks despite having a good hand with the hope of raising when it is his turn to bet yet again. This is a contentious strategy, which is also called ‘sandbagging’.

CINCH: A sure-fire hand. This is also called ‘lock’ or ‘nuts’.

COMMUNITY GAMES: Games in which a poker players share some cards on the board such as Hold’em, Omaha or Cincinnati.

CONNECTED CARDS: When a player has cards, which are in sequence, for example 6-7 or J-Q.
